WORK STATEMENT

A. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

ESTIMATED COST OF CONSTRUCTION: $11,000,000.00

This space will hold administrative offices, bed charging, and storage rooms. The project will also include the renovation of 5,665 existing square feet of Sterile Processing Services (SPS), Environmental Management Service (EMS), and office support spaces. This basement addition was originally designed in 2016 under a previous project called “CLC Addition and Basement Upgrades Phase 4, #642-CSI-103” but needs minor updates to finishes, mechanical, electrical, fire protection & fire alarm systems. All design updates will be included as part of this project.

The A/E shall review the existing set of bid documents (including drawings and specifications) and update all to meet current VA Design Standards and Codes.

Work in the existing space shall include the replacement of existing finishes (wall, floors, ceilings) and redesign of the existing Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) processing room to bring up to current VA design standards.

Also provided for reference are drawings and specifications for “Upgrade CLC Phase 2 #642-CSI-102.” This project is for a future expansion of the CLC. The A/E will reference these drawings for the location of the mechanical space for the basement addition.

The A/E shall provide recommendations for energy reduction and water conservations and will incorporate into final design based on approved recommendations.

The A/E shall collaborate with Medical Center Infection Control staff to conduct the Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) to incorporate the necessary protection as part of the construction documents.

The A/E firm will be required to collaborate with the Department of Veterans Affairs staff to determine structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical design requirements. The firm will also attend programming meetings with Medical Center staff.

Drawings concerning the existing conditions will be provided to the A/E firm. These drawings may not accurately reflect existing as-built conditions and are to be considered a guide only. Department of Veterans Affairs design manuals for each design discipline are available on the VA Facilities Management Homepage (www.cfm.va.gov). Any major design deviations from these manuals should be discussed and approved by Facilities Management Support before the design is incorporated on the contract documents.
