Additional Detail provided by OSME:
The ME office needs a dual tissue processor (2 retorts) as we perform multiple types of tissue processing simultaneously. Paraffin wax stations require 4 stations to fill each retort. The processor must have the capability to reduce reagent exchange errors. Have a reagent management system which calculates time for chemical exchange as well as alert when reagents need to be changed. In terms of cassette capacity, the processor must be able to run between 300-500 cassettes at full capacity. Must have built in protocols to process different tissue types including, but not limited to, brain, bone, all organs, fatty tissues, cartilage, eye sections. Reagent volume of 3.8 L Minimum to 5 L Maximum. Processor must be programmable to process tissue by day, time-of day. Operating voltage of 100-120V. Not required but for safety reasons would be nice to have the option to process tissue using xylene-free reagents so must be able to perform with and/or without xylene.
The State Medical Examiner's Office follows the Kentucky Governors safety recommendations and mandates and will require all onsite individuals to do so as well.
