About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a Semi-Automated Crude & Detergent Fiber Analyzer for the USDA-ARS Grassland, Soil and Water Research Lab. The project requires a tabletop instrument capable of analyzing forage quality by measuring Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), and Crude Fiber with semi-automated capabilities. Technical requirements include a compact size of 41x23x51 cm, weighing 16 kg or less, with the ability to process up to 96 crude fiber, 120 neutral detergent fiber, and 144 acid detergent fiber samples per day.

The government will provide network access through USDA or Texas A&M AgriLife internet networks and laboratory space in Room 142 of the research facility. The analyzer must operate in ambient conditions between 15-30°C with 20-60% relative humidity, use 110-120V power, and include an integrated drain hose for waste fluid disposal. The contractor is expected to provide installation, testing, calibration, and training on the equipment. The USDA-ARS will manage ongoing maintenance using congressional or external funding, with access restricted to normal operating hours.

Project

Semi-Automated Crude & Detergent Fiber Analyzer

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

Delivery of a tabletop crude and detergent fiber analyzer. The unit should have the following features:

1. Semi – automated crude & detergent fiber analyzer

2.0 Background

This instrument will be used to determine the forage quality of the range, forage, and pastureland plants for providing this critical information to farmers and ranchers. This advanced instrument enables accurate measurement of Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), and Crude Fiber, which are essential for assessing forage quality and optimizing livestock nutrition. By automating fiber determinations, the analyzer reduces labor time, minimizes human error, and ensures consistent results, allowing farmers and researchers to make informed decisions about pasture composition and grazing strategies.
