The Contractor shall use the following Environmental sample collection methods unless an exception is authorized by the COR. The Contractor shall have the sample collection method approved by the COR prior to performing services.
Environmental sample collection methods recommended by the FDA.
· Soil and sediment samples shall be collected using a 12 inch agar soil/sediment bore. Up to 10 cores shall be included in one composite sample with testing, in duplicate per organism, 25 g portions.
· Up to 10 gallons of environmental or agricultural water shall be collected sterilely and concentrated using filtration, tangential flow filtration, continuous flow centrifugation or modified Moore swab or another method agreed upon by the Contracting Officer (CO)and/or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). The whole filter(s), swab or 25 ml of concentrate should be tested in duplicate per organism.
· Up to 1 liter of field standing water, depending on availability, shall be collected into a sterile container and concentrated by filtration or another method agreed upon by the CO and/or COR. Whole filter should be tested.
· Vegetation, native and agricultural, should be collected in sterile plastic bag. Sample size will vary with vegetation source from 5g (for blossoms) to 25 g (for all others- leaves, stems, and roots).
· Scat should be collected in sterile plastic bags and identified to the best of the collector’s knowledge. Composite samples are acceptable as long as the sample is composed of all one type of scat (ie all goose feces). Samples will vary in size from 5 g to 25 g depending on availability of scat.
