Figure 1 (Automatic Throttle Servo)
The automatic throttle servo (Figure 1) is mounted beneath the center console on the C-5 Galaxy aircraft centerline and is mechanically connected to the throttle levers. The assembly consists of a DC electric motor-generator-tachometer, drive train elector-magnetically operated dual engage clutch, override clutch, limit switches, position sensors, and an electrical connector installed in a housing. The servo automatically drives the throttles to various positions based on which sub-mode of the system is selected and being utilized.
Figure 2 (Autopilot Servo Motor)
The autopilot servo motor is a rotary actuator. It provides the necessary coupling or isolation of the autopilot subsystem with the control linkages and cables for automatic operation of the control surfaces. It provides a means of achieving hold modes of flight in the pitch and lateral axis. The aileron servo is mounted on the center wing rear beam and the elevator servo is located beneath the flight deck floor on the copilot’s side. The assemblies consist of a servo motor/generator, position sensor, engage clutch, status/switch, drive train and a connector installed in a housing.
