About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Tinker Air Force Base, dated 13 October 2026, addressing industry inquiries from an Industry Day event regarding a shipping containers solicitation.
The document clarifies key requirements and parameters for the shipping container procurement. First Article Inspection will assess only adherence to design intent of drawings, with no additional performance requirements such as drop, vibration, or environmental handling parameters. Alternate materials and design solutions that meet or exceed drawing requirements are welcome for specific components including fasteners, latches, document containers, cleats, skids, and rub bands; however, any other variations require submission of a Request For Variance (RFV), and the basic structure of fiberglass coated marine-grade plywood is not eligible for RFV consideration. The containers are not classified as critical items. Past performance examples will be accepted and considered as part of supplier qualifications. The solicitation will not include metal or aluminum options; although such containers have been produced in the past, the current program requirement adheres to drawings specifying fiberglass coated marine-grade plywood construction. The memorandum is signed by Uriah Hughes, F108 Lead Engineer at AFLCMC/LPSDE.
