6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS: None additional

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED

7.1 Clean, polish, and inspect the propeller and sea chest suction grates identified in paragraph 3.1, using References 2.1.1 through 2.1.5 and Enclosure 2.2.1 as guidance. Accomplish all tasks using IMO, SOLAS, and the Manufacturer’s requirements as guidance.

7.2 Coordinate with ship’s force to have associated equipment locked and/or tagged out per ship’s lock out/tag out policy. When the maintenance is complete, coordinate with ship’s force to have associated equipment unlocked and/or tagged in per ship’s lock out/tag out policy.

7.3 Drain and dispose of any liquid in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws.

7.4 Conduct a Pre-Dive Planning Meeting with the Diver’s Representative, Master, Chief Engineer and MSCREP. The meeting agenda and discussion covers, at a minimum:

7.4.1 Confirm there is no record or indication of abnormal deterioration or damage to underwater body, propeller, rudder, stern frame, stern seal, underwater structure, or sea valves.

7.4.2 Discuss means of communication between the Bridge, Dive Team, and Engine Room.

7.4.3 Discuss procedures/plans for emergencies.

7.4.4 Discuss the water clarity (visibility) and the current cleanliness of the underwater hull. Determine if additional cleaning or spot cleaning will be necessary.

7.4.5 Discuss the vessel’s anticipated drafts, pier-side clearance, and under-keel clearance at the time of the cleaning.

7.4.6 Discuss impact of the tides and currents on divers and the examination.

7.4.7 Discuss anticipated duration of the underwater work.

NOTE: Clean all seal areas at the completion of work

7.5 Clean and polish the propeller and sea chest suction grates to meet the manufacturer’s design, installation, maintenance instructions, and service bulletin requirements. Use References 2.1.1 through 2.1.4 as guidance. Perform the following:

7.5.1 Remove all sea growth from the propeller and sea chest suction grates, including, but not limited to: calcium deposits, sea grass, and barnacles. Cleaning must not result in damage to the propeller or the removal of propeller material. Utilize the following approved cleaning methods:

a. Hand-cleaning methods such as scraping, and the use of brushes and pads. Plastic or hardwood scrapers, nylon, and polypropylene brushes such as A-1 and A-2, and hand-held plastic conditioning pads such as Scotch-Brite “Green” are acceptable for cleaning all propeller surfaces. It is preferred that the final cleaning operation of propeller blade edges (within 3 inches) be cleaned by hand with plastic surface conditioning pads. Do not attempt to round the edges of the blades with brushes and discs.

b. Powered cleaning processes. Only nylon and polypropylene brushes such as A-1 and A-2, and non-abrasive plastic surface conditioning discs such as Scotch-Brite “Green” may be used with power tools on less sensitive areas of painted propellers. Do not remove markings. Powered cleaning methods are not to be used within three inches of blade edges, tips, cusps, fillets (excluding hub to blade interface), areas of high curvature, or other sensitive areas of the propeller. When cleaning the outer periphery of the blades, the brushes and discs must be kept flat on the blade surface.

7.6 Conduct an inspection of the propeller, rope guards, rudder, shaft seals, and sea chest suction grates to meet the manufacturer’s design, installation, maintenance instructions and service bulletin requirements. Use References 2.1.1 through 2.1.5 and Enclosure 2.2.1 as guidance. Perform the following:

7.6.1 Examine all visible parts of the propeller. Inspect the hub, blades, and blade edges for cracks, curling, porosity, cavitation erosion, nicks, dents, bends, cable marks, flat spots, ridges, punch marks, and gouges. Verify that the propeller is free of conditions that may cause the propeller to become out of balance.

7.6.2 Inspect Propeller and Shafting as follows:

a. Inspect the following underwater equipment for damage, fouling, roughness, loose or missing parts; propeller blades, hubs, propeller caps, devices, rope guards and fairwaters.

b. Remove any wire, rope, hose, cable, or any foreign material, which may cause vibration and/or noise or damage to equipment being inspected.

7.6.3 Visually examine stern bearing and rope guards for fishing nets, wire rope, and oil seal leaks.

7.6.4 Visually examine rudders for damage, missing hardware, missing inspection plates, and wire rope.

7.6.5 Visually examine all sea chest suction grates for damage, missing hardware, obstruction, and debris.

7.6.6 Submit photographs and a completed Enclosure 2.2.1 to the MSCREP detailing any observed damage or deficient conditions.

7.7 Maintain workspaces in a clean condition during and upon completion of the work requirements. Prevent contamination of any adjacent equipment and spaces.

7.8 Upon completion of all inspections and maintenance, return the propeller and sea chest suction grates to a ready for service condition.

7.9 Coordinate with ship’s force to tag-in all required systems and equipment.

7.10 Reports

7.10.1 When inspection, service and testing reveal any deficiency a condition report is to be submitted to the MSCREP with recommended repairs and parts required. Submit one electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF).

7.10.2 Submit a report that includes “as released” condition of the propeller. Submit one electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF).

7.10.3 All reports and checklists are to be completed and signed by the person who carried out the inspection and maintenance work and countersigned by the Company’s representative.

7.11 Painting
