About this file
The document is a detailed access and building location briefing for a sodium battery installation project at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) for Building 498. The project involves removing existing lead-acid batteries and installing new sodium nickel battery modules with Ethernet remote monitoring capabilities. Specific installation requirements include removing and disposing of existing power inverters, installing new 200-amp and 100-amp modular power inverters, and adding 27 new 20-amp dual locking electrical outlets.
Base access logistics are comprehensively outlined, with the primary delivery gate operating Monday through Friday from 5:30 am to 3:00 pm MST. Alternate access via the Truman gate requires base sponsorship and vehicle inspection. Contractor personnel must provide valid U.S. government-issued identification, be U.S. citizens, and have no outstanding warrants. The document includes detailed site maps showing recommended routes between Buildings 1010 and 498, precise battery rack measurements (78" x 42" x 25"), and specifications for battery cell weights (approximately 150 lbs per cell) and rack configurations (24 cells, 3 cells per shelf, 8 shelves per rack).
