About this file

This document is a Draft Specification for an Optical Comparator to be procured by the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The specification details the precise requirements for a Starrett HF750 Series Optical Comparator, which will be used in the Model Shop precision inspection lab to measure small, hard-to-measure features with high accuracy. Key technical specifications include a 300mm x 200mm X-Y travel range, 10x, 20x, and 50x magnification capabilities (with an optional 100x lens), a 30" diameter screen, motorized X and Y axes, surface and profile illumination, and accuracy specifications of +/-0.05% profile accuracy and +/-0.005 mm measurement accuracy.

The procurement requires a new, fully functional optical comparator with specific hardware configurations and capabilities, including automatic edge detection, data retention and transmission, and part skewing functionality. The vendor must provide a 1-year warranty, installation services, and a 3-day training class for up to two people. Delivery is specified as FOB Arnold Air Force Base, with the contractor responsible for safe packaging, delivery, installation, and providing comprehensive documentation including an installation guide, maintenance manual, electrical manual, and schematics. Refurbished or remanufactured machines are explicitly not authorized for this requirement.

Specification for Optical Comparator at Arnold Air Force Base, TN; Arnold Engineering Development Complex

(AEDC)

The specific machine brand/model is the Starrett HF750 Series Optical Comparator. This machine will be an integral part of the inspection process at the Model Shop precision inspection lab and is one that will be utilized daily for small, hard to measure features that standard measurement equipment cannot achieve. The comparator is needed to fully support AEDC’s test cells and ensure parts and assemblies conform to their respective drawing requirements before being delivered to the end user.

Due to existing software, similar purchased comparators, periodic service and calibration requirements, any other machine or machine software combinations will need to be reviewed and approved by the requestor prior to purchase.

Provide all materials, labor, and equipment necessary to provide a new fully functional Optical Comparator. Refurbished or remanufactured machines or parts are not authorized for this requirement.
