DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS DIRECTORATE
MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, GUNTER ANNEX ALABAMA
COLLEGIATE INFORMATON TECHNOLOGY COLLAB DAY
STATEMENT OF INTEREST
UNITED STATES AIR FORCE HISTORY/BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS BACKGROUND
The United States Air Force (USAF) is over 70 years old. Many of our initial information processing efforts were based on the routing of physical paper forms to the various offices that need to perform an action in a business process. As computers were introduced, many of our earlier business applications automated the data entry on the paper forms and the routing of the information to the various offices. In 70 years, the offices have changed many times as the USAF have re-organized, and we can expect future re-organizations in response to Public Law changes, threats, and information needs of the USAF. Therefore, the information requirements to perform the future jobs in the Air Force will evolve, driving changes to where and how information is gathered, collected, routed, and stored.
The Business and Enterprise Systems (BES) focus area for this RFI and Statement of Interest encompasses the following problem statement: How best to rebuild and replace legacy system providing critical capabilities to today’s Air Force without causing significant or catastrophic damage to the mission. How should the Air Force adapt, rebuild, refactor, or replace existing legacy systems to best position the Air Force to exploit modern business and technology needs.
