BACKGROUND

The Spectrum System Development Architecture SSDATM is an established framework that provides for consistent delivery and implementation of software system development using the SAP™ (formerly Sybase) toolset. The SSDATM is not an application, and it does not dictate the implementation of any business solution. It is an architecture that brings a level of rigor, consistency, and predictability to the development of quality applications in a client/server and/or web environment to all of Depot Maintenance System Integration (DMSI) Components. It allows for DMSI to build standard, structured, and scalable enterprise level applications.

The SSDATM provides a standard infrastructure design for the DMSI components and a host of common application services. This infrastructure includes software components, class libraries, objects, System Business Transactions (SBT) templates, System Select Transactions (SST), and System Utility templates (SUT) proprietary to NCI Information Systems, Inc. These elements are implemented into Appeon PowerBuilder, and Oracle Procedural Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) and known as the SSDATM Framework.

The SSDA provides the following common reusable services: Administration Module, Application Level/role based Security, Error Handling, Transaction Management, Common GUI Look & Feel, Object/Component Management, Application Scenarios, Application Partitioning, Broadcast Messaging, Report Engine, AF Portal Ready and Audit Logging. These basic infrastructure services are mandatory for any type of application/system and are used by all of the DMSI components which directly equates to a cost savings to DMSI because the components benefit from these common standard services without having to expend the resources and time to develop and/or maintain them across their application and/or the DMSI enterprise.

The SSDATM supports client/server and the Web Java Security Module. The SSDATM also uses many other industry standard technologies and tools such as Java Server Pages (JSPs), JSP Tags, JavaScript, Oracle stored procedures, PL/SQL, XML, JavaBeans, Control Compliance Suit (CCS). DMSI has six applications, deployed into production at Tinker AFB, Hill AFB, and Warner-Robins AFB, five client/servers and one Web Java Security Module.
