About this file

This document is a Question and Answer (Q&A) related to a Request for Quote (RFQ) for library shelving at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (NMUSAF) Research Library. The RFQ, Solicitation Number FA860125Q0009, is being issued by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The solicitation requires a Spacesaver brand 4-post shelving system that can be easily reconfigured as the library space changes. Offerors must submit a detailed response explaining the proposed products and how they meet all requirements. Quotes are due by December 5, 2024 at 12:00 PM EST, with the period of performance within 90 days of award. The agency will award a firm-fixed price contract to the responsible offeror with the lowest price technically acceptable, provided the price is fair and reasonable. This is an "other than full and open" competition under NAICS 337214 with a small business size standard of 1100 employees.

NMUSAF Library Shelving Question & Answer

AGENCY AND CONTRACTING ACTIVITY: Operational Contracting Branch, Installation Contracting Division, Directorate of Contracting, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Force Material Command, Department of the Air Force.

AFLCMC/PZIBB

1940 Allbrook Dr.

Bldg. 1, Room 109 Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433-5344

Question: How many shelf openings are in each unit?

Answer: Shelves should be adjustable, minimum 3 (4 including the base level).

Question: Our doors add 1” to the shelving, is the 13” D measurement including the door?

Answer: Yes, the 13” D includes the door.

Question: Is this a ground floor installation?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is there a loading dock available?

Answer: No. We have a forklift and staff who can unload from a truck.

Question: The hinged glass doors we typically provide are 63” high. Because we need to include bases with our static units that would mean the overall height of the shelving would be 64-1/4” high. The specs very specifically call for 62-3/4” high shelving units, can you confirm if this solution would be OK?

Answer: No, the height is non- negotiable due to fire suppression system.

Question: The double wall construction requirement is causing issues, what will be stored in the shelving? The glass doors seem to only be available in laminate shelving. I wanted to send this out so you are aware of the different obstacles it seems that we have come up with for meeting the specifications.

Answer: The shelving units are to store books in a research library. They cannot be laminate.
