Sheet Metal Plate Roll Questions/Answers

Q1. What is the capacity requirements as to the tensile and yield strength of the material and diameter for shapes to be formed?

A1. There are no requirements for tensile and yield strength. The manufacturing of material is for aesthetic use only. The min forming diameter we're looking for is 7.677".

Q2. Do you require hardened and ground rolls for coning purposes?

A2. We do not produce enough cone shapes to justify those requirements. We do however need the capability to produce cone shapes.

Q3. You list that the motorized back roll should have three wire grooves. What are the sizes of the grooves?

A3. The three wire grooves should be as follows .225" / .300" / .377".

Q4. I note you call for a foot pedal for the operation of the machine. Would you accept a hand control for plate bending roll?

A4. The powered metal working equipment in our shop is foot operated. This is a standard we want to continue. The use of remote foot operation allows one man/woman to handle large stock with ease and is safer than holding a controller and stock at the same time.

Q5. You designate a 5.118" diameter upper roll. Do you need a roll that is specifically that roll diameter?

A5. The Baileigh spec sheet does specify an 5.118" diameter roll. We can fax the spec sheet to you if needed. Again looking for minimum forming diameter of 7.677".

Q6. You indicate that the rolls must be driven at 8 rpm. Would a higher speed machine be a problem?

A6. A lower driven RPM is desired for safety. A low RPM allows the user more time to move away from the material being formed. We are not a production shop, we are looking for accuracy of work rather than quantity. A slower RPM gives the user more time to see an impending mistake.

Q7. What type of roll are you requesting is to be a single pinch, double pinch, three roll double pinch, four roll or even an aircraft roll?

A7. Type of plate roll needed is Three Roll Single Pinch Hydraulically driven.
