About this file

This Sources Sought Synopsis (SSS) is a market research document for the overhaul of C-5 Nose Landing Gear Door Actuator Assemblies for the United States Air Force (USAF). The requirement involves four specific National Stock Number (NSN) part numbers for actuator assemblies that are critical safety components for C-5 aircraft landing gear doors. The contract is anticipated to be a ten-year Requirements Type Contract, consisting of a one-year basic period and four one-year ordering periods, with an option to extend for five additional one-year ordering periods. The projected quantity is estimated at 7 units per ordering period.

The document includes a comprehensive Contractor Capability Survey with detailed questions covering general capabilities, overhaul processes, commerciality, and other considerations. The market research aims to identify potential sources with expertise in overhauling these actuator assemblies, with a specific focus on small businesses. No set-aside decision has been made, and the government will determine the final acquisition strategy after analyzing responses. Interested contractors must submit their capability survey responses via email to specified Air Force contacts, including Caiveon Thomas and J. McKenzie Grinstead, with a submission deadline listed on SAM.GOV. The survey encourages joint ventures, teaming arrangements, and detailed explanations of technical capabilities and manufacturing processes.

PURPOSE/DESCRIPTION

The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet qualification requirements for the overhaul of C-5 Nose Landing Gear Door Actuator Assemblies: NSN 1680-01-237-0230 PN:177560-35, NSN 1380-01-237-0231 PN:177560-34, NSN 1680-01-160-6519 PN:177560-33, NSN 1680-01-160- 6520 PN:177560-32 for USAF aircraft. This overhaul effort will utilize a Requirements Type Contract. The contract period of performance is anticipated to be ten (10) years. It is expected to consist of a one (1) year basic period and four (4) one (1) year ordering periods followed by the option to extend for five (5) one (1) year ordering periods. The projected quantity of 7ea for each ordering period is the best estimate given current forecasting measures.

These actuator assemblies are part of the C-5 Nose Landing Gear (NLG) Door Actuation Assembly. When the NLG is extended, the doors are held open by the actuators, and when the landing gear is retracted the actuators close the doors to enclose the landing gear and streamline the aircraft. These are critical safety items, failure of which could cause the loss of aircraft and crew.
