1920 x 1080 Projector Placements For the HEDS Rear Projection Domes
We do not have the tools to provide an aitoff projection of the projector coverages on the dome. Instead, this description provides the location, orientation and view angle of the projectors.
The UHP projector bulbs require that the projectors be oriented within 15° of horizontal. To accomplish this, mirrors are being used to “fold” each projector frustrum to end up being normal to the dome at the center of the projection.
The dome coverage will be from -35° to +90° latitude.
The 30 projectors will be evenly placed around the dome to accommodate geometry and luminance blending.
An even coverage of the dome can be realized with the 30 projectors conceptually placed as follows (ignoring mirror usage):
Seven “columns” of projectors evenly spaced around the dome at the following longitudes:
0°, 51.43°, 102.86°, 154.29°, -154.29°, -102.86°, and -51.43° Each column has 4 projectors at the following latitudes:
-22°, 2.8°, 27.6°, and 52.4°.
Two projectors covering the cap at the top of the dome placed as follows:
both at latitude 77.6° and at longitudes 180° apart.
(Any such longitude placement will give adequate coverage for the cap. Exact longitudes for each of the two domes is determined by placement of sprinkler pipes, conduit, trusses, etc. around the ceiling.)
Navitar 0.65 wide angle converter lens will be used in front of each projector lens so that the projectors can be placed closer to the dome in order to fit within the dimensions of the dome room. The tip of the each projected frustrum will be 6.384’ from the dome surface (ignoring mirrors). Each frustrum will be 57.47° wide x 34.28° high.
