Large E1 Pulser Technical Requirements for Mil-Std-188-125 Appendix B short pulse E1 criteria Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Testing

1. Pulser must be converted into modular system that can be carried by four persons into tight areas (i.e. down stairs). Each modular piece will have sturdy handles for lifting, be in a ruggedized container, and have interconnection cables with easy connect/disconnect connectors. For the Marx generator/oil tank section, it will be on wheels (suitable for uneven ground), can be moved with a hand truck or forklift, and have lifting eyebolts on top for a crane/hoist lift.

2. Pulser will operate at greater than 375 kV charge (continuously variable down to approximately 100kV).

3. Pulser will be capable of delivering a double exponential waveform up to 5 kA (minimum) into a short.

4. Source impedance will be between 60 and 75 ohms (back terminated within pulser).

5. Risetime into low inductance short will be less than 20 ns.

6. Full Width Half Max will be between 500 ns to 550 ns.

7. Pulser charging is performed manually using dials on high voltage power supply.

8. Pulser triggering is performed with manual trigger in separate trigger module.

9. Has keyed interlock to prevent unauthorized use.

10. Pulser comes with 25 feet of output cable (coax).

11. Pulser is mounted in a roll-around cart.

12. Trigger control panel includes lighted buttons:

· that initiate charge

· that indicate pulser ready to fire

· pulser Fire button

· pulser charge dump button

13. Charge level is set digitally using thumb-wheel switch

14. Must provide actual wave forms from proposed E1 Pulser as part of formal proposal

15. Must provide history of reliability as part of formal proposal
