FORGING DIE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT

SECTION A. ITEM IDENTIFICATION

1. STOCK NUMBER (NSN): 1630-01-606-0371

2. PART NUMBER (P/N): 201128014-10

3. NOUN: Nose Wheel Assembly

4. APPLICATION: F-16

SECTION B: JUSTIFICATION AND REASON FOR ESTABLISHING AND

DEMONSTRATING FORGING QUALIFICATION PRIOR TO CONTRACT AWARD.

1. The qualities of forgings that provide the required durability and structural integrity are highly dependent on the material stock used, the pre-forging stock work, the sequence of forging die use, equipment and the consistent repetition of the developed forging techniques and practices.

2. Execution of the qualification requirements specified herein are necessary to verify the form and structural integrity can be consistently repeated. The results of compliance will yield a qualified forging source and forging product combination. The qualified product is the certified procedures and dies that are used to produce a forging which meet the specified standards.

3. Failure to procure a qualified forging from a fully qualified source can result in structural integrity and durability degradations that will compromise the mission capability of the respective aircraft system.

4. Completion of this requirement will assure the Government that a capable forging source is available to the Government.

5. Forging of the item is required for repeatability of the complex shape.

SECTION C: REQUIREMENTS THAT MUST BE SATISFIED TO BECOME A

QUALIFIED FORGING SOURCE:

1. The vendor will select a forging source, act as the primary contractor and direct the orderly development of forging dies, techniques and practices needed to assure that the required repetitive quality can be expected.

2. Forging qualification shall be accomplished as specified by forging drawing 201128013 and the requirements of SAE AMS4133. The forging source shall be directed to develop dies, establish the forging sequence and other processing procedures in compliance with the specified drawing and standard. The vendor shall insure the forging source completes all the required forging development testing and inspections, and that the developed forging meets the specified standards.

3. The vendor shall submit the complete qualification package demonstrating full compliance for final review and approval. The design control authority must approve the forging dies and process before any production forging is made.

5. Once submitted, the qualification package will become the property of the Government.

6. The government shall have full access to the qualified forging source and unlimited “no charge” use-rights of the certified forging dies and procedures for the life of the F-16 Aircraft. The contractor will notify the design control authority of the location (name, address, die number) of the qualified forging source. A copy of the letter sent to the forging source stating the government will have unlimited use-rights to the forging dies must be included in the forging qualification package.

7. Any proposed modification, disposal or disposition of the above forging dies and procedures shall be cleared through the design control authority prior to disposition.
