About this file
This document is a detailed engineering specification for a Servo Assembly used in the Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) that controls elevon positioning. The Servo Assembly consists of two identical linear Actuators driven by a common electronic control unit (Controller), designed to provide angular displacement of the elevon between +14.0 and -22 degrees. The specification covers comprehensive technical requirements including performance characteristics, environmental testing standards, electrical and physical interfaces, reliability design requirements, and maintenance guidelines.
The specification details multiple configuration variants including Engineering Model, Development Test and Evaluation (DT&E) Unit, Production Unit, and Test Fixture versions. Key technical specifications include precise performance requirements such as backlash measurement, stiffness under various loading conditions, friction limits, and frequency response. The document is extensively annotated with revision history, indicates compliance with multiple military standards, and provides intricate design parameters for manufacturing and testing the Servo Assembly, which is critical for guiding the missile to its intended target by controlling elevon movement.

Torque applied = ±6200e (.10) CosWt, in-lbf w = 50 to 100 Hz
3.2. 1.3 Interface signal and power characteristics
3.2. l .3.1 Input command signal characteristics. The input command to the Servo Assembly will be a voltage which will represent an elevon deflection. The command signal shall have a voltage range of +7.00 volts to -11 .00 volts and a scale factor of 0.50 volts/degrees. For a zero command voltage, the elevon deflection will be zero degrees. The polarity of the command signal voltage is positive for positive elevon deflection.
Input command signals shall be accepted in the form of a differential input on two separate wires. The elevon zero degree position shall be referenced to the ±15 VDC supply return. The impedance of the Controller to the position input signal shall be 10 Kohm ±1 Kohm.
3.2.l .3.2 Position monitor signal characteristics. The Servo Assembly shall produce two DC analog elevon position signal voltages which will be monitored outside the Servo Assembly. The scaling of position monitor signal voltage to elevon position shall be 0.500 volts per degree. A positive output voltage shall correspond to a positive elevon deflection.
The position monitor signal voltage accuracy shall be within ±2% of value or ±9 mv, whichever is greatest. The position monitor signal voltages shall be referenced to the ±15 volt supply return and shall be O ± 100 millivolts with the Elevon at its null position (0 degree).
The Servo Assembly output shall be capable of driving a load of 5 Kohms or greater.
A short in the external circuit connected to the Servo Assembly or a malfunction in the position monitor circuit in the Servo Assembly shall not affect the performance of the Servo Assembly.

3.2.1.3.2. 1 Electrical/mechanical offset. Applicable for the -1, -17, -34, -38,-40,-42, and -44 Serv,o Assy .. only.· The Servo Assembly controller (-2 and -18) circuitry shall provide for a + 4.000 + .050 volt electrical offset of the actuator position feedback potentiometer signal at actuator mechanical null (0 degree). A short or open-circuit of this signal shall result in a position monitor signal greater than plus or minus 3.5 volts (for generating a 11 NO G0 11 in the FCSE).
3.2.1.3.3 Motor current monitor signal characteristics.
a. Two DC analog signal voltages shall be produced by the Servo Assembly, which are proportional to the two averaged motor currents. The signal voltages shall be referenced to the +15 voe common. The signals will be monitored outside the Servo Assembly.
b. The output voltage shall be scaled to 0.2 v/ampere of motor current.
A positive current is one which drives the elevon in a positive direction. The current monitor signal voltage accuracy shall be within +3% of value, or +100 mv, whichever is greatest. After nuclear radiation, the current monitor signal voltage accuracy shall be within 3.3% of value, or 200 mv, whichever is greatest.
c. The Servo Assembly output shall be capable of driving a load of 5 Kohms or greater.
