7 ASSEMBLY.
(See Figure 1.)
8 TEST.
(8) Fill fuel side of heater with fuel system calibrating fluid MIL-C-7024, Type II, and allow displaced air to bleed through valve in fuel-out adapter.
(9) Close valve after bleeding air.
(10) Apply test fluid at 490 to 510 psig (P-5) and 540 to 560 psig (P-7A, PW-100A, -102, and -102A0 at room temperature, until temperatures of test fluid and housing are stabilized at room temperature.
(11) Close valve on fuel-in adapter.
(12) There shall be no visible leakage and no loss of pressure during two-minute test period.
a. Lubricate and place two preformed packings(9)in grooves in ID of housing(10, Figure 1), and two preformed packings(3) in grooves on OD of core end plate(2).
Do not twist, bend, or scratch tubes or otherwise damage core.
Ensure performed packings do not crimp or break during assembly.
b. Insert end of core(4) into air inlet of body.
c. Align flat surface of eng plate OD(2) with flat surface of housing ID.
d. Push core into housing until it seats using arbor press.
e. Install gasket(11) in groove in air inlet flange.
f. Secure flange(1) and upper support(12) to body with bolts and locknuts. Torque 75 to 85 pound-inches.
g. Install gasket(8) in groove in air outlet flange.
h. Secure flange(7) and lower support(5) to body with ten bolts and eight locknuts. Torque to 75 to 85 pound-inches.
i. Install metering plate(6) on air outlet flange after satisfactory completion of testing.
j. Secure plate with two screws torqued 33 to 36 pound-inches. Ensure head of screw does not project above plate surface.
k. Stake each screw in two places.

(See Table 2.)
CALIBRATING FLUID MIL-C-7024 is combustible and is an irritant to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Keep ignition sources away. Avoid direct body contact. Wear protective clothing/equipment. Provide adequate ventilation.
a. Following equipment and conditions needed to perform testing:
(1) Calibrating fluid MIL-C-7024, Type II.
(a) Maintain test fluid at room temperature.
Table 2. Heater Pressure Drop.
2400 0 to 1.0
14000 0 to 8.0
(2) Fuel pressure and air pressure sources capable of supplying 220 psig and 550 psig, respectively, at no-flow conditions.
(3) Pump capable of supplying test fluid at 14,000 phr with discharge pressure of 100 psig.
(4) Flowmeter to measure test fluid of 2,000 to 14,000 phr with accuracy of plus or minus one percent.
(5) Pressure gage to measure fuel and air pressures of 0 to 550 psig within 5 psig.
(6) Test adapters as follows:
(a) Two static pressure test adapters.
(b) One air outlet static pressure test adapter.
(c) One air inlet static pressure test adapter.
(d) One fuel inlet adapter.
(e) One fuel outlet adapter.
(7) Differential pressure gage capable of measuring differential pressures from 0 to 20 psi within 0 to ±0.1 psig at base pressure at 100 psig.
b. Perform the following tests:
W (phr) f Pressure Drop (psi)

9 PREPARATION FOR STORAGE.
(1) Fuel side leak check.
(a) Install PWA 16465 and PWA 10888 adapters on fuel inlet port, and PWA 16466 and PWA 10888 adapters on fuel outlet port.
(b) Connect assembly to PWA 15189 stand assembly, or equivalent, using line of not more than
0.375 inch ID and not more than three feet in length.
(c) Connect pressure gage to fuel in adapter.
(d) Fill fuel side of heater with test fluid, and allow displaced air to bleed through valve in fuel-out adapter.
(e) Close valve after bleeding air.
(f) Apply and maintain 30 psig test fluid pressure until temperature of test fluid and heater body are stabilized at room temperature; then close valve.
(g) Indicated heater test fluid pressure shall not decrease more than five psig in two minutes with no make up. There shall be no visible leakage.
(h) Apply and maintain 540 to 560 psig test fluid pressure at room temperature; then close valve on fuel-in adapter.
(i) Indicated heater test fluid pressure shall not decrease more than five psi in two minutes with no make up. There shall be not visible leakage.
(2) Fuel side flow check.
(a) Remove PWA 10888 adapters, and connect differential pressure gage between remaining PWA 16465 and PWA 16466 adapters.
(b) Flowing in normal direction and maintaining 90 to 110 psig heater inlet pressure, measure heater pressure drop at flows specified in Table 2. Pressure drop shall be within limits shown.
(3) Air side leak check.
(a) Install PWA 16464 adapter on air inlet port and PWA 10890 adapter on air outlet port.
(b) Connect pressure gage to PWA 16464 adapter, using line of no more than 0.375 inch ID and no more than three feet in length.
(c) Apply 200 psig air pressure to air-in side of heater, and close valve on air-out side. Air pressure shall not decrease more than 100 psig in two minutes.
a. If anticipated storage period is 21 days or less, capping of both fuel ports and both air ports is sufficient, after draining excess fluid from unit.
