QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: POLYETHYLENE KITTING FOAM SHEETS (FA812517Q0077)

May 11, 2017

Question 1: The polyethylene foam asked for in this quote comes in virgin material and reprocessed material. Can we quote the reprocessed?

Answer 1: Yes, reprocessed material is technically acceptable.

Question 2: Can you please clarify “stand up” to hydraulic fluid?

Answer 2: “Stand up” meaning to not dissolve in hydraulic fluid. Some of the foams will melt if not the correct type.

Question 3: 4 lb. material comes in a 24” width. Is it acceptable to laminate 2 24” sheets to make the 48”?

Answer 3: No, it is not technically acceptable to laminate two 24” sheets to make the 48” sheet.

Question 4: Is there a shelf life?

Answer 4: None identified.

Question 5: Is there a certain temperature we need to be aware of?

Answer 5: There will be no heat sources other than normal temperature ranges for Oklahoma.

Question 6: Is pressure a problem?

Answer 6: There is no pressure issues other than weight of product sitting on the foam.

(End of Summary of Changes)

Question 7: When we get to the nuts and bolts of the chemical characteristics of hydraulic fluid and oil, the General Chemical Resistance Guide states that it will hold up for “incidental contact only”, but not “continued direct contact”. Is ‘incidental contact” acceptable?

Answer 7: Yes, incidental contact is acceptable. Parts will be removed from aircraft and stored in these kitting boxes, then boxes are sent for the parts to be cleaned.

Question 8: Is this a requirement that you have asked for in the past? And if so, has the 4# polyethylene foam had issues when in contact with hydraulic fluid and oil?

Answer 8: The 4# density PE foam has been in use for about 3 years now with no issue
