About this file
This is a Question and Answer document dated December 18, 2024, for BAA/CALL #2 regarding Automated Heavy Machinery, issued by the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC). The document addresses two contractor questions about integrating new autonomous equipment platforms and requesting details about standard equipment currently used.
The document provides a comprehensive list of vehicles used for Rapid Airfield Damage Repair (RADR) that the Air Force is looking to automate, including 16 specific vehicles with their NSNs and management codes. Key equipment includes excavators, graders, dozers, loaders, rollers, dump trucks, and specialized vehicles like the EOD Armored Loader and C-130 Transportable Backhoe. The AFCEC emphasizes they are seeking innovative solutions from industry partners and will consider all white papers meeting BAA call criteria, noting they cannot narrow research parameters as they want to review all possible research options within the Automated Heavy Machinery topic.

Contractor Question & Answer Document 18 Dec 24
1) Feasibility of Introducing New Platforms: Could you provide any guidance on the tolerance for integrating new, multi-purpose automated or autonomous machine equipment platforms within existing operations? Specifically, we are interested in understanding whether this approach might conflict with or enhance the overarching objectives of this BAA topic area.
• Answer: AFCEC is seeking innovative solutions from industry partners. We will consider any white paper that meets the BAA call criteria.
2) Standard Equipment Reference: Is there a resource or list available that details the
‘typical’ or ‘standard’ machinery and equipment currently employed by the Expeditionary Engineering Division (AFCEC/CXA) for missions such as Rapid Airfield Damage Repair (RADR), Bare Base Development, and Base Recovery After Attack (BRAAT)? This information would help us better align our solutions with existing operational frameworks.
• Answer: The attached list includes vehicles used for Rapid Airfield Damage Repair
(RADR). It is an example of the vehicles/vehicle types the Air Force is looking to automate.
