About this file

This document is Attachment 1 Version 3 of a federal solicitation (FA700026Q0057) containing salient characteristics and requirement specifications for a quantum demonstration/experiment system.

The vendor must supply a turnkey, integrated experimental platform for quantum information science and quantum optics suitable for both instructional laboratories and faculty-led research. The system shall be modular, scalable, and reconfigurable to support multiple experiment configurations without permanent modification, with all components being commercially supported laboratory-grade instrumentation. The platform must include polarization-entangled photon pairs generated via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), with two independent entangled-photon sources to enable entanglement swapping and quantum networking demonstrations. Vendors may propose integrated or modular solutions and should describe compatibility with user-supplied SPDC hardware.

The system shall include a minimum of four single-photon detectors with an operating range of approximately 800-1000 nm (with operation near 1310 nm and/or 1550 nm highly desirable), dark count rates preferably ≤250 counts per second, timing jitter below 100 picoseconds, high photon detection efficiency, and fiber-coupled or free-space coupling options. Timing and correlation electronics must provide high-resolution time tagging or time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) functionality with a minimum of four synchronized timing channels, sub-nanosecond (picosecond-level) precision, high sustained count rates, and support for multi-channel coincidence detection and post-processing analysis. The vendor shall supply software compatible with a Government-provided computer to support data acquisition and coincidence analysis, requiring only a single laboratory computer license. On-site installation, commissioning, and vendor technical support during system setup and acceptance are highly desirable.

Quantum Demonstration/Experiment

System Attachment 1 Version 3

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS/REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATIONS:

At a minimum, the Vendor must be able to supply a quantum demonstration/experiment system with the following characteristics:

• System Integration: The system shall be a turnkey, integrated experimental platform for quantum information science and quantum optics, supporting both instructional laboratories and faculty-led research. It should consist of polarization-entangled photon pairs via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), single-photon detectors, timing/correlation electronics, software, and all required interfaces.

• Modularity: The platform shall be modular, scalable, and reconfigurable, enabling multiple experiment configurations without permanent modification.

• Components: All components shall be commercially supported, laboratory-grade instrumentation suitable for sustained academic and research use.

• Photon Sources: The system shall include two independent entangled-photon sources to support entanglement swapping and related quantum networking demonstrations.

Vendors may propose integrated or modular solutions, and should describe compatibility with user-supplied SPDC hardware.

• Single Photon Detectors: The system shall include a minimum of four single photon detectors, with the following characteristics:

• Wavelength Range: An operating range of approximately 800-1000 nm. Solutions capable of operation near 1310 nm and/or 1550 nm are highly desirable.

• Dark Count Rate: A low dark count rate, preferably ≤ 250 cps.

• Timing Jitter: Timing jitter preferably below 100 ps.

• Coupling: Fiber-coupled detectors are preferred; however, free-space coupled detectors are acceptable.

• Efficiency: High photon detection efficiency.

• Timing and Correlation Electronics: The system shall include high-resolution time tagging or time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) electronics with:

• Channels: A minimum of four synchronized timing channels. Systems supporting expansion are preferred.

• Precision: Sub-nanosecond (picosecond level) timing precision.

• Count Rates: High sustained count rates without significant dead time.

• Functionality: Support for multi-channel coincidence detection, digital data acquisition, and post-processing for correlation and coincidence analysis.

• Software and Computer:

• The vendor shall supply software that operates on a Government-provided computer.

• The software must support data acquisition and coincidence analysis.

• A software license for a single laboratory computer is sufficient.

• Installation and Support: On-site installation and commissioning are desired. Vendor technical support and troubleshooting assistance during system setup and acceptance are highly desirable.
