INSIGNIA, RANK AND GRADE, EMBROIDERED SHOULDER MARK

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY

The following exception will apply when Purchase Description MIL-I-14645C is used to manufacture shoulder marks for the Air Force Academy.

1. Page 1, Paragraph 1.2, Substitute the following:

-Orientation of the lightning bolt shall be horizontal to the ground just as shown in the cartoon above. Note that the 3 points of the bolt rest on a horizontal line. This insignia shall be ¼” above the last insignia or centered between the button and the last insignia.

The rank depicted in this figure were added to the cadet ranks in March 2009. The spacing of the

Polaris for the LtCol and Major shall be the same as that for the lightning bolt. On the SMSgt and

MSgt the Polaris shall be centered in the space between the chevrons and the bar.
