FA5613-21-R-0002 8 Feb 2021 Q&As Set #2

AMENDMENT 0004 - Questions and Answers (Q&As) in regards to the updated PWS

Question Answer

1. Could you clarify the discrepancy between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4? That is, the former allows for several board certifications, but the latter seems to only allow physicians who are boarded in Occupational and Environmental Medicine from ABPM.

Paragraph 2.3.3 requires the physician to have ONE board certification in any of the five areas:

Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or a residency trained Flight Surgeon.

Paragraph 2.3.4 requires a current board certification in occupational environmental medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Therefore, the physician is required to have TWO board certifications.

2. Will the Government please reconcile PWS Sections 2.3.3 and PWS 2.3.4? PWS Section

2.3.3. allows for several different board certifications/specialties whereas PWS Section

2.3.4 seems to somewhat contradict this by indicating that the only acceptable board certification from the options in PWS 2.3.3 is for Occupational Medicine.

These paragraphs shall remain separate, as both certifications are needed. Please see above answer.

3. Will a board certification in Aerospace Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or a residency trained Flight Surgeon meet the board certification requirement for the Occupational Health Physician?

No, the physician has to possess two certifications:

A current board certification in occupational environmental medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine

AND

A board certification in any of the areas stated in paragraph 2.3.3.

A total of two certifications is required.
