About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document regarding a cargo storage racking system solicitation (FA558725Q0005) for RAF Mildenhall, accompanied by technical drawings and specifications for a 463L cargorack system.

The document clarifies key technical requirements including: beam widths of 2700mm (versus originally specified 2500mm), three levels of storage including floor level, ceiling height of 210" (5334mm) with 4700mm of usable space, and weight capacity requirements of 12,000 lbs per pallet position (36,000 lbs per column across 3 beam levels). The storage system is designed to accommodate 56 total boxes on the first two levels and 21 shorter boxes on the top level. The technical drawings show a heavy-duty galvanized finish construction with 7 bays, 3 positions per bay, and capacity for both ISU90s and 463L pallets. Each level requires capability to store two pallets, with specific accommodations for Trifold boxes of varying heights (45" and 30").

FA558725Q0005 RAF Mildenhall - Cargo Storage Racking System

Our beam widths would be 2700mm wide not the specified 2500mm wide, and I believe you require 2 x beam levels so 3 levels including the floor? Yes, 3 levels including the floor level.

What is the required height of the racking? The ceiling height is 210” / 5334mm. So, we’re are trying to utilize 4700 mm as “usable space”.

If the boxes are 1220mm wide you will only get half the required amount on the racking i.e. 28boxes not 56? could you check that please?

Reference the images below. With the layout we have, we can store 56 total boxes on the first two levels. And 21 shorter boxes on the top level.

RFQ Q&A: Question no 7.

What is the maximum weight per beam level required? FYI Each beam level will store 2 pallets? For the first two levels, we are roughly 69-70 inches.

Analysis: Ideally, we would like each pallet position to be able to hold 8,000 pounds. The reason for this being so high is due to how heavy chains and device pallets can be. Shoring kits can also become quite heavy and restricting the units’ capabilities could cause issues in the future.

Clarification Required:

Can you advise on the above analysis as this would be 7272kg per beam level - which cannot be achieved. The maximum available level is with 3 beam levels 2300 kg / 5060 lbs per level.

Below is exactly what we are looking for without limiting our operations. Each pallet position can support a 12,000 lb pallet. With the stack being 3 high, that would be 36,000 lbs for each column (3 beam levels). In the picture you will see 2 boxes in each location. That is a visual to show how the boxes would fit on a singular 463L pallet.
