Questions and Answers
1. Is it necessary that the two furnaces stand on top of each other in a double chamber or can the furnaces simply stand next to each other with the quench tank?
Answer: The furnaces won’t be standing on top of each other. It’s simply the design of a single unit by the manufacturer. The heat treating unit we are currently replacing is essentially the same design. There is a circulating air furnace on bottom and a still air oven on top. They are a single unit. The terminology of “Dual” is describing a unit with a still air oven and a circulating furnace. One chamber is for processes that require a higher temperature range than the other. Most importantly, we have limited work space and this unit has the most conducive footprint for the required needs.
2. You require a furnace for the heat treatment of aluminum up to 2000 ° F/ 1093°C, but the melting temperature for aluminum alloys starts at approx. 580°C. Will you accept a product with a lower melting point?
Answer: No, the purpose of a heat treating oven isn’t to melt the parts that you place inside of it but to modify its molecular grain structure. In order to achieve the desired grain structure we must bring the metal to the required temperatures stated in the Technical Order 1-1A-9. The stated temperature range of 2000 ° F is needed for the ferrous materials (steel parts) heat treatment processes.
