About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics statement for rolling storage shelves required by the 15th OSS Aircrew Flight Equipment.

The 15th OSS requires an off-ground rolling shelving system to store mobility items, Aircrew Chemical Protective Gear, and backstocked supplies. The current system has deteriorated and poses safety risks due to frequent operational needs. The shelving system must support cases weighing approximately 45 lbs each and be capable of compacting through a rolling mechanical carriage system. The vendor must meet or exceed the following requirements: shelving dimensions per attached diagram; minimum 1,000 lbs weight capacity per individual shelf; operation by one person without injury risk; pest-proof metal construction; fit within a 30' x 30' space; rust-resistant material with capability for protective caps or top shelf segments to prevent damage from ceiling leaks; modular or adjustable shelf heights; and provision of eight movable shelf rows with combined square footage of 1,184 sqft (2 rows with 288 sqft, 2 rows with 180 sqft, and 4 rows with 216 sqft). Following contract award, the contractor must coordinate with the customer Point of Contact for disassembly and disposal of the existing system, then install the new system. The contractor bears full responsibility for old system disposal.

Salient Characteristics for Rolling Storage Shelves

Rationale of Requirement

15th OSS Aircrew Flight Equipment requires an off-ground shelving system for compact storage of mobility items, Aircrew Chem Protective Gear, and backstocked supplies. The shelving must be large enough to store cases of approximately 45 lbs each, but able to compact down through a rolling mechanical carriage system. The system should be made of a material to discourage pests and rust, and capable of customization to suit current and future needs. The 15th OSS currently has a system in place, but it has worn down through age, and is inoperable in places that pose a safety risk with its frequent need.

Shelving Requirements

The requirements for the shelving system are below. The vendor must meet or exceed these salient functional and physical requirements.

• Shelving Dimensions: See Attached Diagram.

• Must be able to support a weight of minimum 1000 lbs for each individual shelf.

• Must be able to be operated by one person without risk of injury.

• Must be made of a pest-proof material (metal)

• Must fit within a 30’ x 30’ space.

• Must be resistant to rust, and capable of having caps or top shelf segments to shield each shelf, in the event of leaking from ceiling.

• Shelf height must be modular, or capable of adjustment.

• Must meet the capabilities of the current system’s 8 movable shelf rows, with enough square footage to meet needs.

o 2 rows w/ 288 sqft.

o 2 rows w/ 180 sqft.

o 4 rows w/ 216 sqft.

Delivery/Installation

Contractor shall coordinate with customer Point of Contact following award for the disassembly and disposal of old system. Contractor shall then install the new system in its place. Contractor will be fully responsible for the disposal of the old system.
