Personnel $19,540
Technicians (A full‐time technician will devote 25% of his/her time to this project to prepare samples for analysis and record results). Calculation: $23/hour, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, 38 weeks/year equals $34,960, and $34,960 x 25%
= $8,740.
Postdoc (A full‐time postdoc will devote 36% of his/her time to this project to perform analysis). Calculation: 9 months salary of the postdoc will be $30,000, and $30,000 x 36% = $10,800. Market Research shows that 12 months salary for postdoc in University of Tokyo is Y4,800,000 ($39,199.07, FY17 Ex. Rate: $1=Y122.4519) https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/tokyo‐postdoctoral‐salary‐SRCH_IL.0,5_IM1071_KO6,18.htm. Based on this amount, 9 months salary will be Y3,600,000 ($29,399.30, $1=Y122.4519). Proposed 9 months amount of $30,000 and market research amount of $29,399.30 is comparable. Therefore, 9 months salary of the postdoc amount of $10,800 is considered fair and reasonable.
Travel $8,500
Domestic (to attend scientific conferences): Calculations: $500 for each trip from Osaka to Tokyo ($250 for traffic and another $250 for accommodation of 2 nights). 1 person will travel 3 times trips a year, and another 1 person will travel 2 times trips a year. Therefore, in total, $500 x 5 times trips = $2,500
International (to attend scientific conferences): Calculations: $3,000 for each trip from Japan to US ($2,500 for traffic and $500 for accommodation of 4 nights). 2 persons will travel for 1 time a year. In total, $3,000 x 2 times trips = $6,000
Indirect Cost $12,500
Buildings and equipment
1. Maintenance and rental costs for laboratory and office …$2,755
2. Electricity, gas, water, sewer, waste …$2,610
