LUBRICATION SYSTEM
The two AC lube oil pumps were removed and sent out for inspection by the Hydraulic Center in Fairbanks. The steam driven lube oil pump was removed, disassembled, cleaned and inspected. The bearing thrust and carbon measurements were taken and recorded on form St1-1106 and can be found latter in this tab. The thrust was found to be excessive and will need to be repaired.
The lower bearing journal was found to have a 0.004” tapper and will need to be repaired. The carbons were removed and shipped out to have new manufactured.
The steam driven lube oil pump was sent to Tetrad’s shop for repairs. The upper bearing thrust bearing combination was manufactured along with a new thrust collar. The shaft was skim cut on the lower bearing journal to remove the 0.004” tapper. A new lower bearing was manufactured with the proper clearance. The pump was assembled with new carbon backing and bearings. The pump was installed using new gaskets and returned to service.
The bearing sumps were found to be in fair condition with only minor debris in the bottoms.
The # 1 bearing oil seal was found to have gaps at the split line ranging from closed to 0.010”. The #2 oil seal was found to have gaps at the split line ranging from closed to 0.026”. The #3 oil seal split line was found to have major gaps in areas that range from closed to 0.025”. The #4 bearing housing was found to be leaking. The in board seal was found to have shims on the split lines. This is suspect for the oil leak. The #4 out board seal was found to be in satisfactory condition. The generator end exciter oil seal was found to have gaps up to 0.012” with the exciter end seal in satisfactory condition. The exciter outboard bearing oil seal was found to be in satisfactory condition. All seals with needed repairs were sent to Tetrad’s shop for repairs. All repairs were made and the seals installed with proper clearances.
The lube oil tank was drained by plant personnel. After the tank was drained it was opened, visually inspected and cleaned. During the visual inspection a moderate amount of paint chips and debris were found on the bottom. The lube oil tank was cleaned using rags to wipe all oil and debris out of the tank.
