Questions and Answers – Asbestos Testing & Abatement

Q) Why do the below‐mentioned items need to be removed prior to testing of materials? Proper Testing

Methodology will not disturb materials to the extent to cause contamination during the gathering of samples for testing.

Stated In the Scope of Work.

1.1.1 Samples: “Protect furniture, walls, and any other materials during project to prevent damage. The contractor will move any furniture and appliances (Not to include office automation/phones/electronics/computers) from the testing location prior to work starting and will replace all items in the room after the testing is complete.”

A) During Testing these items are not required to be removed. The statement refers to the fact that there is other property in the rooms and the contractors are expected to be reasonably conscious of such items and mitigate any contamination or other damages to the property in place.

**During the Site Visit there were a few questions concerning the work in HSCO and UCC Rooms.

Q) There was discussion about completing the UCC Room before working in the HSOC?

A) Yes, the UCC room has outside access and is empty. This will be abated first, if required. If the HSOC is required to be abated, the carpet contractor will move all HSOC equipment into the UCC to abate the

HSOC, if required.

Bottom line on additional rooms connected to HSOC, UCC and 137 is that they will need to be tested. If they test positive, we will have to RFI to determine the full scope of abatement/carpeting contracts.
