About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document addressing clarifications regarding a modular shelving system procurement for aircraft equipment storage.

The government requires a modular shelving system designed for an open mezzanine with two static back-to-back shelf runs and mobile carriage units. The system must accommodate a 4-foot clearance on all sides to allow walk-around access. Key specifications include a 36-inch aisle width and 1-inch clearance between moving carriages, resulting in a total system length of 19 feet 2 inches, which has been confirmed as acceptable. Critical to the government's requirements are closed back panels between shelf sets to prevent co-mingling of items, as each shelf set will contain aircraft equipment specific to individual tail numbers. The flooring must be a modular floor system with embedded rails using "B" rails rather than "L" rails. A site layout/drawing has been provided as an attachment. These clarifications address manufacturer concerns regarding obstructions, unit width specifications, safety code compliance, and floor configuration requirements necessary to proceed with pricing.

Questions:

1. Do you have a layout/picture/Map/drawing of the space?

1A. Yes, Attached to the email.

2. Manufacturers require a drawing to identify potential obstructions (columns, doors, clearance) and to confirm if the government intends to fill the 19-foot width or strictly adhere to the 6-foot wide units described.

2A. This shelf systems is designed to sit on an open mezzanine, with a set 4ft clearance from any object on all sides, to allow ability to walkaround the entire system.

2B. I’m not sure I understand what is being asked, the intent is for the two static runs to be ‘back-to back’ shelves, with the same use as a two sided shelf just like the mobile carriages.

3. U.S. safety code, a 36-inch aisle and 1-inch clearance between moving carriages is required. Because of this, the total system length becomes 19'2" instead of 19'.

Also, since the layout has no single-entry units, closed back panels are not required.

Please confirm if this layout and overall length are acceptable so we can proceed with pricing.

3A. The 36-inch aisle plus 1-inch clearance and a total system length of 19’2” is acceptable.

3B. The closed back panels in between shelves are required to prevent and co-mingling of items between designated shelves. Essential one set of shelves will contain one set aircraft equipment specific to a tail number.

Additional notes:

A modular floor that has the rails embedded is what we want. There was a miscommunication on that part when this was initially sent up. So what that vendor mentioned is spot on to what we expect, to include the “B” rails instead of “L” rails.
