About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) addendum for a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Laser Engraver and Accessories, Solicitation Number FA487725QA517. The Q&A addresses a vendor (Boss Laser) inquiry about the laser engraver's capabilities, specifically clarifying that the machine is limited to surface marking on coated and non-coated metals, not engraving to depth. The government confirmed this limitation is acceptable for their use case.
The associated federal contract opportunity is a small business set-aside solicitation by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base for a firm-fixed price contract. The procurement includes six Contract Line Item Numbers (CLINs) for a BOSS HP-3655 laser engraver, accessories, and software, with a total quantity of one each for items including an air filter/water separator kit, oxygen regulator kit, alignment tool kit, LightBurn Pro software, and a PiBurn V rotary roller. The contract requires Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance for country of origin, and the government will award to the offeror meeting the lowest price and technical capability requirements.

Questions from vendors. Answers from Customer:
Q: “After discussing the requirements in the subject RFQ, the OEM has come to the following conclusion.
While the requested machine is indeed capable of cutting 0.48" stainless and carbon steel, it is not capable of engraving depth. It is limited to surface marking only, on both coated and non-coated metals.
Until the end user is made aware of this limitation, Boss Laser will not be proceeding with any new requests related to this RFQ. Please let us know once the end user has reviewed this information so we can determine next steps.
Please let us know if this is what the end-use case is and should we proceed?”
A: This is fine. We don’t need to engrave the metal. Just mark it.
