RFI’s – Abandoned Water Well

1. Does the DoD have the original (or a copy) of the well construction log?

Answer: No, there are no construction logs for this particular well.

2. All wells should have an Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR), does this well have one?

Answer: The State (ADWR) is set up to accept an abandonment request without this well being registered. When the NOI (notice of intent) gets filled out by the Well Driller, they shall note that the well isn't registered. ADWR will then process the NOI and perform the registration at that point.

3. What is the depth and diameter of the well?

Answer: The depth and diameter are to be confirmed by the contractor. The estimated depth is about 300-ft, give or take, with a water depth at about 380-ft, give or take. The casing is 8-inches.

4. What is the depth and diameter of the boring?

Answer: See answer 3.

5. What type of well is it, drinking, monitoring?

Answer: This is an unknown previously capped well recently discovered.

6. If drinking water well, is the pump and piping removed?

Answer: There is no pump or piping with this well.

7. Does the well need to be abandoned beyond AZ DEQ standards, i.e., bore out the casing and tremie grout to the surface?

Answer: Per Specification Section 01011 paragraph 1.6.3.11 the well casing shall be removed two feet below the current surface before placing a surface seal. Then backfill above the seal to match existing elevations.

8. Is the water in the well contaminated with petroleum, chlorinated solvents or other man-made substance?

Answer: It is unknown if the well is contaminated.

9. Is there more than one well

Answer: No just one well.

10. Will I need to complete the Notice of Intent to abandon, or is that already completed?

Answer: The contractor will need to complete and submit the NOIA to both the government and

ADWR.

11. total depth

Answer: See answer 3.

12. is it cased

Answer: Yes it is cased.

13. was it a monitoring well or for drinking water

Answer: See answer 5.

14. Does it still have a pump and pipes

Answer: See answer 6.

15. photo of the top of the casing if possible

Answer: See attached photos.

16. WHY a 2 ft plug? Is this a misprint or misunderstanding…?

Answer: I did not find the 2 ft plug in the project requirements. There is Specification Section 01011 paragraph 1.6.3.11 which requests that the well casing be removed two feet below the existing surface before placing a surface seal. Then backfill above the seal to match existing elevations.

17. You are asking for a Design? This will just be filling the well with a mixture of grout to the mixed suggested by the state.

Answer: Yes the government would like to see and review the drawings that will be sent with the

NOIA.

18. You have a large amount of unnecessary information, such as polishing metal? Welding ?

Fencing? Load calculations for parking lot access? Coordination with design and construction plans??

Answer: I could not find the polishing metal requirement. If welding is not a process than it is not a requirement. Due to the location and the current existing barriers a fence will not be required.

There will be a parking lot placed back in this location and the government wishes to verify that any materials used will withstand the intended site’s end use.
