Section A: General Contract Information
Contracting Activity: 99 CONS
Project/Program Name: Triton 36 Ultrasonic Cleaning System
Purchase Request/Identification Number: FM485282990034
Estimated Contract Cost (including Options):
Section B: Description of the Supplies/Services Required
Section C: Justification for Soliciting from a Single Source or Brand Name
Upgrading to a new Triton 36 ultrasonic cleaning system is the most cost effective choice as the medical center already owns two smaller Triton units that currently clean and sterilize their daVinci S/Si and Xi robotic surgical instruments, and also the disposable supplies currently being used would remain the same. The department would remain standardized and the staff would not require new or extended training. Also, the current cleaning/sterilization documentation process would remain standardized and save time.
Section D: Efforts to Obtain Competition
Market research performed by the customer revealed that there are several Triton 36 ultrasonic cleaning features not available through other competitors such as: Titanium Rod Transducer technology. TRT technology produces a high cavitation energy output, reducing cleaning times and enhancing efficiency. This technology is ideal for cleaning complex instruments, including those used in laparoscopic, orthopedic, ophthalmic, and robotic surgeries used specifically for Da Vinci instruments like the ones the surgical unit currently uses, a special cycle for flexible endoscopes, does not have a contact lens warning, and cassette disposal does not require dilution of large amounts of water.
Section E: Steps to Preclude Future Single Source or Brand Name Awards
Continued market research will be performed upon repurchase of upgraded equipment for this section.
Section F: Contracting Officer's Determination
I have determined, in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), that the circumstances of this contract action deem only a single source is reasonably available.
