Text version

The SOW does not specify what type of material is to be used to repair the docks. Should we match the docks with like materials as in place now (pressure treated wood), or does the deck need to be installed with composite decking material?

This project is a Sustainment and Restoration project that is intended to restore the original integrity of the facility to insure continued safe operations. Replacement of the PT decking with composite decking materials for the walking surface was not considered during the development of this project. Note that the top rail of the hand rail is currently composite and the replacement shall match. The project intent was to restore the structure with similar materials that meet the requirements of applicable guidelines.

UFC’s may be found at www.wbdg.org <http://www.wbdg.org> .

Applicable Unified Facilities Criterias (UFC) reference American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA) guidelines. Wood products and associated treatments utilized in this project shall be in accordance with AWPA’s Use Category System (UCS); reference AWPA U1-07 Table 3-1. For example, wood members used for marine applications that are above ground and exposed to salt water splash would have a UCS classification of UC4B which has a 0.60 pcf CCA retention minimum requirement.

The contractor may provide an option for composite decking in the submitted bid. Contract award will be based on consideration of the base bid.
