SOCCENT HUMAN PERFORMANCE PROGRAM NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Program Overview

The SOCCENT Human Performance Program is a movement based approach to increasing the physical and mental capabilities of each member. Currently, movement is objectively assessed utilizing the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) which analyzes seven movements performed in a slow, closed environment. Although this does allow for effective initial screening, the FMS falls short of assessing and tracking movements done in an open, ballistic fashion and the progressions/regressions of such movements. This gap constitutes a need for hardware and software that allows us to record in 3D, review, correct, program, track and reinstitute movements while allowing the athlete to visually see any deficiencies in movement quality real-time. This real-time visual feedback is an integral aspect of motor learning, especially for those who are primary visual learners versus audio or tactile learners.

In addition to the motor learning/movement quality enhancement capability, the Human

Performance Program is in need of a means of quantifying, tracking and programming power output by each athlete. Power, defined as Force x Distance/Time, is currently not able to be tracked over time as the variables of acceleration (Force=Mass x Acceleration) and distance cannot be accurately captured by the human eye. The capability of accurately capturing power will allow us to enhance performance while preventing injury by tracking trends in output compared to anticipated trends dictated by the program phase. For example, knowing such variables will allow us to infer aspects of human physiology.

Example: If athlete X is training regularly and performance numbers are being tracked we can expect output Y. Should the athlete’s performance output, power, be reducing when the expected change should be an increase , assuming all other variables are unchanged(form etc), we can suspect potential physiological issues associated with overtraining or a potential musculoskeletal injury which the athlete has failed to self- identify to the coach.

The capability must be able to collect, store and analyze the performance outputs of all athletes who are and have been member of the HPP. The manufacturer must offer service packages over a period of time, 5 years, to allow for adequate data collection while insuring all updates will be made during said time period.

Specific Requirements

1. Product must have at minimum two 3D motion capture cameras fastened to each weightlifting rack.

2. Cameras must be interfaced with PC and touch screen tablet, both affixed at each individual rack.

3. PC must be custom fabricated to increase durability given the environment which it will be utilized.

4. Tablet must be connected to PC using composite cable.

5. PC must have Ethernet connection in order to allow for connection to either self-contained server or external connection to cloud to allow for analysis of data.

6. Software must have capability of tracking each athlete’s data for an indefinite duration, with an absolute minimum of 5 years.

7. Software embedded into PC must be monitored by Microsoft System Center Operations

Manager to allow for manual updates to keep software relevant.

8. Software must currently use Windows7

9. Hardware must be compatible with current Keiser weightlifting racks as well as other trainings tools.

10. Software must allow athlete to pick movement, perform movement and review movement in an intuitive manner.

11. Software must have an option for paperless workouts where athletes can retrieve workout locally on tablet throughout the facility.

12. Software must allow for athlete to retrieve workout while away from facility for TDY etc via URL. This capability will not track power as there will be no camera however will allow for the athlete to maintain programming while mobile.

13. Software must have planned capability to include body composition and wellness platforms as well as heart rate variability in the future if not currently available.
