About this file

This document is a Vendor Questions and Answers file for federal contract opportunity FA480326Q0022, a Soda Ash Dispenser procurement for Shaw Air Force Base Water Department.

The buyer seeks to replace an aging soda ash dispensing system with a new feeder and mixing tank system. Key requirements include: a hopper with manual bag loading capability for 50-pound bags (capacity of approximately 150 pounds for three bags), dust collection, and stairs/platform for operator access. Level controls must include electronic low-level indicators for at least one well (Well 4 utilizes ultrasonic level detection while Well 6 is manual). The buyer prefers Metalfab as the feeder manufacturer, which has 50 years of experience in water treatment applications. For the mixing tank, all fittings and valves should be standardized to 3/4-inch sizing, including water inlet, outlet, overflow, and drain connections. Valves must be electrical solenoid-actuated (the existing system's solenoid valve is currently non-functional and requires repair). High and low-level controls are required for the tank. The system must include automation capability for semi-automated operation rather than purely manual operation. The buyer provided photographs of existing systems at both Well 4 and Well 6 installations and indicated openness to a vendor site visit. The existing system is functional when operating properly but requires replacement or repair due to age and wear; the mixing tank manufacturer is uncertain but may have been originally supplied by Coperion (formerly Schenck Process).

Vendor Questions

1.Feeder

• Are you removing a manual cover and pouring 50 lbs. bags directly into the hopper?

• Or a bag dump station with a door with gas assists?

• Any dust collection present or desired?

• Hopper to store ___ lbs.?

• Level Controls o Are you looking for a basic Tubular level ‘gauge’, where you can see the level external to the tank? no o Or an electronic low-level control in the hopper to output “Refill Required”?

Light? Horn? Both?

• Do we need to provide stairs and a small platform for the operator to easily refill the feeder? It may be low enough to avoid…

• We normally use Metalfab for this application. They have been providing feeders to the water treatment industry for 5 decades. Is this acceptable?

2.Mix Tank

• What type of fittings, and size, are required:

o Water inlet -o Outlet -o Overflow -o Drain –

• All valves manual or electric or air actuated?

• Level controls – Do you require high and low levels? yes

3.Automation

• Is any automation required?

Or will this be manually started… fill the tank up to “x” level (visually). Start the feeder, open the discharge valve?

4.Existing System

• What do you like about the existing system?

yes no yes yes automated yes. . . desired usually fit 3 bags, i.e, 150 lbs one well (well 4) has ultrasonic and well 6 is manual yes various sized, would prefer 3/4" for all electrical solenoid but not currently working...want it to work various sized, would prefer 3/4" for all various sized, would prefer 3/4" for all various sized, would prefer 3/4" for all when functioning properly, no issues, but due to age and wear, it needs repairing/replaced

1519048805C Highlight

• What problems have you had with the existing system that you would like to ‘fix’ with a new system?

Here is an in-house project we have for Soda Ash. Larger scale, but it will give you an of our typical system.

It may be good for our local rep to visit your existing facility and review the application. Let us know.

If you can send photos of the existing system that would be great as well.

Could you please confirm if this feeder is replacing an existing unit? If so, we would appreciate it if you could provide any available information from the current feeder, such as the serial number or nameplate details.

Additionally, could you please share any available information regarding the mixing tank?

Specifically, we would like to know whether the mixing tank was originally supplied by Coperion (formerly Schenck Process) or another manufacturer.

These details will help us ensure that the proposed solution fully meets your requirements.
