About this file

This document is a Contractor Questions and Government Responses file for Solicitation FA480325Q0044, titled B1206 Shop Air Compressor. The document contains a technical discussion between a potential contractor and the government regarding air dryer specifications for an air compressor. The contractor raised a concern about the proposed refrigerated air dryer's effectiveness in winter temperatures below 38 degrees, suggesting a heated desiccant dryer as an alternative. The government responded that they prefer a maintenance-free solution and currently have no issues with their existing refrigerated unit, but would consider a desiccant dryer if provided detailed information about service intervals, desiccant life expectancy, and replacement costs.

Contractor Questions and Government Responses

Title: B1206 Shop Air Compressor

1. In the SOW for this solicitation, it mentions you are looking for a refrigerated air dryer for outdoor use. I wanted to confirm this was the case as I know your location does get below 38 degrees in the winter which would render the dryer ineffective. Our dryer manufacturer is recommending a heated desiccant dryer for this project.

Government Response: We would prefer something maintenance free that doesn’t require replacement of desiccant. Given the relative humidity of the winter months is usually low, we haven’t seemed to have a problem with the refrigerated unit we have currently. We would not be opposed to the desiccant dryer design, but given the high humidity in SC we would need to know the service intervals, expected life of the desiccant, and how much it would cost to replace it before we make a decision.
