22 Feb 2024
1. GENERAL: The contractor shall provide all materials, plans, travel, plant, labor, equipment, and supervision necessary to do the following:
2. PRINCIPAL FEATURES: The work to be performed includes, but is not limited to, the following:
2.1. Provide inspection of non-gas fired live fire training structure Bldg. 639 located at Grand Forks AFB in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 1403, 2018 Edition, Chapter 7 non-Non-Gas Fired Live Fire Training Structures, Annex A.6.2.1.1, and Figure A.6.2.1.1.
2.1.1. Remove and reinstall the original thermal linings of the facility as required to meet the above NFPA 1403 Standard. Replacement of the thermal lining is not a part of this requirement.
2.1.2. Provide a complete comprehensive debriefing to the end user with comprehensive reports showing all findings.
2.1.3. Provide Certificate of inspection that is valid for 5 (five) years.
2.1.4. Clean and return all areas of work back to original condition.
2.2. The structural integrity of the live fire training structure shall be evaluated and documented by a licensed professional structural engineer with live fire training structure experience and expertise or by another competent professional engineer (PE) as determined by 319 CES/CEN.
2.2.1. The intent is for the P.E. to have previously performed at least one live fire training structure project. This experience may include a previous live fire training structure evaluation, the repair or renovation to an existing live fire training structure, or the design of a new live fire training structure.
2.3. The structural inspection shall include removal (if necessary) of concrete core samples (to be determined by the PE) from the structure to check for delamination within the concrete.

2.4.1. Heat can penetrate thermal linings and reach the protected structure, especially if the linings are cracked or otherwise require maintenance when live fire training occurs. This heat could damage the structure, a hidden condition that would otherwise go undetected if the panels are not occasionally removed to expose the hidden conditions.
