About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the procurement of a modular trench shielding system for Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. The system must be capable of safely shoring trenches up to 10 feet deep in Type C-80 soil conditions, with a length capacity of up to 40 feet and width adjustability between 3-7 feet. Key requirements include modularity for easy assembly and transportation, with each assembled box weighing under 1,000 lbs, and comprehensive documentation demonstrating engineering compliance with OSHA regulations.
The contractor is responsible for procuring and delivering the complete system within 60 days, conducting comprehensive training for base personnel, and providing detailed documentation including engineering drawings, material certifications, and technical specifications. Acceptance criteria include successful delivery, thorough system inspection, personnel training, and engineering document review. The system will come with a 1-year manufacturer defect warranty, and must include components such as keeper pins, corner posts, spreaders, lifting hardware, stacking hardware, and leveling legs with adjustable height.

1. Introduction This Statement of Work (SOW) outlines the requirements for the procurement and delivery of a modular trench shielding system to Malmstrom AFB, MT.
The system will be used to protect workers in trenches up to 10 feet deep in Type C-80 soil conditions, as defined by OSHA regulations, and up to 40 feet long.
2. Scope of Work, the Contractor shall provide and deliver a complete trench shoring system meeting the following specifications:
a. Depth Capacity: Capable of safely shoring trenches up to 10 feet deep in Type
C-80 soil conditions, as defined by OSHA regulations.
b. Length Capacity: Capable of shoring trenches up to 40 feet long.
c. Width Adjustability: Adjustable to accommodate trench widths between 3 and 7 feet.
d. Modularity: Easily assembled and disassembled by a small crew. Modular components for efficient transportation and storage and ability to stack boxes if required.
e. Weight Limitations: Each assembled box should weigh under 1000 lbs. for efficient handling and transportation.
f. Soil Conditions: The trench shielding system must be specifically engineered and rated for use in Type C-80 soil conditions. The contractor must provide detailed documentation, including engineering calculations and test results, verifying the system's capacity to withstand the lateral earth pressures associated with C-80 soil at a depth of 10 feet.
g. Surcharge Loads: The trench shield depth ratings must include consideration of surcharge loads that may occur adjacent to the trench.
h. Deflection Limits: Specify maximum allowable deflection under load to ensure the system maintains its integrity.
i. Lifting and Handling Safety: Specify that lifting hardware will be provided with the boxes and must be rated and labeled with its working load limit (WLL).
j. Stacking Requirements: If stacking is required, specify the maximum number of boxes that can be safely stacked and the required stacking hardware.
k. Leveling System: Request detailed specifications on the leveling leg system, including its adjustment range, load capacity, and stability.
l. Components: Includes all necessary components for safe assembly and usage, including but not limited to:
i. Keeper pins
ii. Corner posts
iii. Spreaders
iv. Lifting hardware
v. Stacking hardware
vi. Leveling legs with adjustable height
li. Transportation:
i. Compact and easily transportable, fitting into an enclosed storage trailer.
ii. Delivery: Delivery of the complete trench shoring system to Malmstrom
AFB, MT.
iii. Delivery Date: 60 Days ADC lii. Training: Provide on-site training to Malmstrom AFB personnel on:
i. Proper assembly and disassembly of the system.
ii. Safe operation and use of the system. With Shop supplied Backhoe
iii. Maintenance and inspection procedures.
iv. A detailed training curriculum outlining the topics covered and the duration of the training.
liii. Documentation: Provide the following documentation
i. Operating manuals
ii. Maintenance manuals
iii. Safety manuals
iv. Engineering drawings and specifications, stamped and signed by a licensed professional engineer in the relevant state, including detailed drawings of all individual components and assembled configurations, and a bill of materials.
v. Tabulated data for all components, including but not limited to:
1. allowable soil pressures, shear capacities, bending moments, and deflection limits. This data must be directly correlated to the submitted engineering drawings and specifications. Engineering calculations demonstrating the system's stability and capacity in
Type C-80 soil at 10 feet depth.
2. Documentation of compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926 Subpart P).
3. Documentation of any material certifications.
4. Documentation of any independent testing or certifications.
5. Information on how to properly inspect and monitor the trench box system, while it is in use, for any signs of failure.
6. Engineering drawings and specifications, stamped and signed by a licensed professional engineer in the relevant state.
7. Tabulated data for all components, including but not limited to allowable soil pressures, shear capacities, bending moments, and deflection limits, correlated to the submitted engineering drawings.
8. Engineering calculations demonstrating the system's stability and capacity in Type C-80 soil at 10 feet depth.
3. Contractor Responsibilities the Contractor is responsible for:
a. Procurement and Delivery: Procuring all necessary materials and components.
Delivering the complete system to Malmstrom AFB, MT, as per the agreed-upon schedule.
b. Installation and Training: Conducting comprehensive training for installation and removal for Malmstrom AFB personnel.
c. Documentation: Providing all required documentation
d. Spare Parts Availability: Provide information on the availability and lead time for spare parts and an avenue for ordering.
4. Acceptance Criteria: The trench shoring system will be accepted upon successful completion of the following, and after the pre-award documentation has been approved:
a. Delivery: All components of the system have been delivered to Malmstrom AFB, MT.
b. Inspection: A thorough inspection of the system has been conducted to ensure compliance with all specifications.
