SECTION 042050 – BRICK STAINING
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specifications Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Quality Assurance:
1. Applicator Prerequisite: All team members have completed the Manufacturer’s instruction course for the application materials involved in the brick staining process. A superintendent must have a minimum of three years experience to supervise the project.
2. Mock-up: Apply masonry stain per manufacturer’s instructions to substrate material on the building. After sample treatment has cure in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, verify the substrate is coated with sufficient stain material to produce the desired appearance and color. Obtain Government’s approval of appearance and color prior to full-scale application.
3. This mock-up will become the standard of quality.
1.3 PRODUCT DELIVERY:
A. Material: All brick staining material shall be delivered to the job site in sealed containers and clearly marked with Manufacturer’s name.
B. Storage and Protection: Acrylic-base materials must be kept from freezing. Store and handle in accordance with Manufacturer’s instructions.
1.4 PROJECT CONDITIONS:
A. Surface preparation: Surface must be free of foreign matter, which may affect the appearance or performance of the brick staining product.
B. Environmental Requirements: Air and substrate temperature must be above 40 degrees F. and below 110 degrees F. Do not proceed with application if the substrate has frozen water present.
C. Protections: All precautions will be taken to protect all properties including appropriate masking, shielding, etc.
1.5 WARRANTY: The contractor and applicator shall jointly and severally warrant masonry stain against failure in material and workmanship for a standard period of fifteen (15) years from the date of application.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
Manufacturer: Brick stain shall be by BrickImaging or approved equal.
PART 3 EXECUTION
1.1 EXAMINATION: Verify the following:
A. Surface to be treated is clean, dry, and contains no frozen water.
B. Environmental conditions are appropriate for application.
1.2 PROTECTON:
A. Protect shrubs, metal, wood trim, glass, asphalt, and building hardware during application from over-spray.
B. Do not permit mist (if spraying) or liquid to drift onto surrounding properties or parking lots.
1.3 APPLICATION:
A. The brick staining shall match the existing brick on the west end of the facility. The staining shall match the base brick color, soldier course color, and the joint material.
1.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. After masonry stain has cured (minimum of 2 hours) verify color uniformity. Re-apply to any area that requires additional color change.
1.5 CLEANING
A. At completion, remove from the jobsite, all excess materials, debris, and waste resulting from this work. Dispose of containers according to state, provincial, and local governmental regulations.
