About this file

This document contains questions and answers related to a federal contract opportunity for carpet replacement at Bldg 1185 on McConnell Air Force Base. The key details are:

The government will provide floor plans and has confirmed that the cove color should be consistent. Contractors are responsible for moving typical office furniture but not heavy items like large safes. All existing carpet, including in the auditorium, needs to be replaced, and the contractors will be responsible for removing and reinstalling the auditorium seating. The project timeline is 60 days from award to completion, and the government will allow contractors to stage materials and a dumpster on-site. Contractors can use rolled carpet in the auditorium if it matches the carpet tiles used elsewhere. Disposal of the demolished carpet is the contractor's responsibility, and the government will provide a designated staging area inside the building. Overall, this document provides details on the scope of work, logistics, and requirements for the carpet replacement project.

c. Is nosing required? Contractor is expected to leave a clean and safe professional looking product upon project completion, to include nosing if necessary.

d. How and what materials are required for steps in the stair area of this space? If the rolled product works better in that space than carpet tiles, the contractor should provide choice for approval. It should be exactly the same or compliment the other carpet being installed.

15. Will the base allow a dump trailer and/ or Dumpster to be on site for the removal of the existing carpet. Yes and a space will be designated as close as possible to the building.

16. Is there any particular sequence you are wanting the areas done in? No, but for efficiency we suggest working in a linear path down the halls.

18. Will the rooms be empty when work starts? The CORS will work closely with the building occupants to ensure contractors have unobstructed access to workspaces and work to prevent work stoppages and delays to work progress. We will note that the building is an active workspace and in certain situations it may be necessary to make minor accommodations around working staff.

A space inside the building will be designated for storing at least 4 pallets of material and possibly more.

22. Are there pictures of a typical office, and the auditorium that can be provided for bidding purposes. Is there on-site storage and what is the distance of that storage for all office furniture, auditorium seating in relation to the work being performed? If it is on a separate floor, what is the elevator access like in terms of traffic, and if it is busy, can furniture movement happen after hours? Yes, pictures of the site are provided, a room inside the building will be designated for staging/storing material of at least 4 pallets worth and possibly more, there is a passenger elevator in the building available for use and the elevator traffic/use is very minimal leaving minimal reason to move anything after hours.

23. Can you please explain the following statement from your SOW: "Installation will be managed by local installers". Did the AF contract a local carpet installer for project oversight? The contract awardee will be the installers for the project. Contracting Officer Representatives (COR) will work daily to maintain project oversight with the onsite installation team project manager. The COR will be the first point of contact for all on site coordination efforts and address any concerns with the building staff from project start to finish.
