About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document regarding an existing compressed air system infrastructure project.
The project involves a compressed air distribution system with 34 drops configured as a loop system and 2 storage tanks. The existing piping is copper, and contractors are permitted to cut and modify the piping as needed. The old Sullair compressor and dryer unit are located in Mechanical Room 11, Building 1235, and can be removed. The air dryer specifications are 460V, 3-phase, 60Hz, 2.7kW, 6A, with a 150A 600V breaker/fuse size; the air compressor electrical specifications were not provided in the bid documents. The wiring size is unknown. A Sullair compressor located near the media blasting machines has the capability to supply the entire building with compressed air but is currently shut off from the rest of the system; however, previous attempts to use this option resulted in water flooding to the Paint Booth and Blaster. Alternative approaches include removing the non-operational dryer and installing a replacement dryer with a tie-in connection for a diesel portable compressor; clarification has been requested regarding the diesel portable generator specifications. Site access is limited to Monday through Thursday, provided personnel are not dispatched to the missile field. The document includes a photograph of a Sullair equipment nameplate showing equipment identification and specifications, though specific model and serial number details are not clearly legible in the image.

Text version
How many drops are there?
Is it a straight run or a loop system?
Loop System
How many tanks are there?
Can we remove the drier unit and/or compressor?
Yes. Old system Located in Mechanical Room 11, Bldg 1235
Can we cut the piping?
Yes
What schedule is the steel piping?
Piping is copper
Can you confirm the existing electrical data from the existing Sullair equipment?
Air Compressor:
Air Dryer: 460V 3 ~60Hz 2.7kW 6A
Compressor and dryer electrical info is needed as it is not listed in the Bid Doc. I need to know the voltage, breaker/fuse size, and wire sizing. Any and all data you can provide would help us quote this more accurately.
Breaker/Fuse Size: 150A 600V
Wiring Size Unknown
Can the Sullair near the media blasting machines could supply the entire building with air?
If that is the case could we hook up the air audit equipment to that machine? That would cut down on having to bring equipment in.
It was reported as “Yes, it has the capability. Its currently shut off from rest of the system.” CONCERN: When it was attempted to do this in the past, the Paint Booth and
Blaster flooded with Water.
QUESTION: If this option is chosen will it cause a stoppage using the existing equipment ie, Paint Booth and Blaster?
LIMITING FACTORS: Access is Monday thru Thursday provided personnel are not dispatched to missile field.
If that is not an option, we will need to know if we can remove the non-operational dryer and install a dryer in its place as well as pipe in a tie in for a diesel portable compressor.
Yes. CLARIFICATION Requested for the diesel portable generator
