Statement of Need for

Laser Range Finder

18 Feb 2025

The 821 CRG On Travis AFB, CA, has a requirement for nine (9) MOSKITO TI Laser Range Finder.

Air Force weather doctrine AFMAN 15-111 para 4.11.1. requires weather personnel to have day and nighttime markers for any visibility reference tools. This specific laser range finder can observe 10,000 m or greater distances and withstand harsh environmental conditions such as dust and humidity. These capabilities will be pivotal in determining the visibility conditions in the austere environments where the CRW requires weather forces to operate. The requirement of the Laser Range Finder stems from the necessity to directly support land and aviation components at the tactical levels by providing weather observations in austere airfields. This will shape current and future operations by providing real-time weather intel for mission planners and flyers. Visibility observations can affect decisions regarding the tempo and timing of ground operations, including decisions on when to conduct sustainment operations and where to set up logistics support areas. Moreover, the MOSKITO TI Laser Range Finder is the only range finder in the market that can observe at a high resolution for day and night optics.
