Quesons & Answers: Dorm Blackout Curtains

1.) The salient characteriscs document requests “draperies shall be of medium to heavy weight commercial quality coton or acrylic”.

• Please note that these types of materials do not inherently meet NFPA 701 FR code.

• If we were to use such materials, we would have to have the fabric topically treated in order to meet FR code.

• This topical treatment oen can change the feel & ‘drape’ of the material, and can somemes be washed out over me.

• The recommended drapery material for commercial applicaons that inherently meet NFPA 701, are 100% polyester.

• Please confirm we can provide a 100% polyester material.

Yes, Please use a material such as 100% polyester material that meets NFPA 701 FR code.

2.) I can’t locate the picture that’s referenced in the SOW to view. Can you provide this please?

3.) Do you require the treatments to be one-way draw or center draw? Center Draw

Center Draw One-Way Draw Le One-Way Draw Right

4.) Do you require the treatments to have full stackback, or otherwise how far out does the rod need to extend past the opening of the window?

a. Full stackback means when the drapery panels are fully opened, the enre glass of the window is exposed.

b. For Center Draw, this would require a rod size of approximately 64”W to achieve full stack back, for a 38.5”W window opening.

c. For One-Draw, this would require a rod size of approximately 57”W to achieve full stack back, for a 38.5”W window opening.

Center Draw that covers a small poron of the window is fine, the enre glass does not need to show. 50.50”

CENTER DRAW EXAMPLE Rod extending 6” ea side of window opening When fully Full Stack Back Achieved opened, each drapery panel will cover 6-7” of the window ea with 64” Rod side

ONE-WAY DRAW EXAMPLE Rod extending 12” on one side of window opening.

Full Stack Back Achieved with 57” Rod When fully opened, the drapery panel will cover the glass approximately 6-7”

5.) Is final measure required with the installaon pricing?

Yes

6.) Are their exisng treatments that are required to be removed by the vendor?

• If so, please advise the treatment types, and if the treatments are to be disposed by vendor, etc.

No, it is a new building with nothing over the window.

7.) What are the alloted working hours for measure and install?

0730 – 1700 Monday - Friday

8.) Due to occupancy and requirement of an escort, how many windows can we expect to have access to for each day of measure & also for installaon, and what are the alloted working hours to be? This will help us determine how many days will be required for performing these services.

We will have 3 escorts available for the meframe.

9.) Will the base be able to accept delivery of the treatments a couple of days ahead of the install team’s arrival, or does the vendor need to coordinate delivery for the installers to accept?

Yes, we will be able to accept the delivery.

10.) Due to the building being occupied, what type of workspace/storage/layout area can be provided?

Q. What would we be installing into?

A. Drywall

Q. Are the sizes given the window size or the rod width and the finished length of the draperies? I ask because a size is given but then it says the draperies will be 5” above the window and 8” below the window. Is that already in the size given or would we have to add that to the length given?

A. Size of the window

Q. I would also have a queson on the fabric. It asks for a commercial quality coton or acrylic fabric but that would not be a normal commercial fabric. Most commercial fabrics are polyester fabrics that pass

701. They would meet the requirements of being cleanable, dimensionally stable, and holds up well to the sun. Eventually the sun will win but it will take a long me. Would you accept a polyester fabric?

A. Polyester fabrics that pass 701 and meets Fire Code

Q. Also related to fabric instead of a blackout lined drapery would you accept a blackout drapery fabric? There are many nice fabrics that are already blackout and do not need an addional lining.

A. Just the curtain is fine.

Q. Also it say to line with navy or royal blackout lining. That would mean you have blue showing outside, is that what you want? Normally lining is white or off white showing to the outside but you can do a colored lining. The blackout fabrics I spoke of earlier can be the same color on both sides or they can have white showing to the outside and a color inside. Keep in mind white reflects the light and heat and a dark color adsorbs the light and heat.

A. Curtain will be Navy or Royal.

Q. If you do a standard commercial grade polyester that passes 701 you don’t need to have it flameproofed it already is. If you use a coton or acrylic, it would most likely need to be treated with chemicals to make it flameproof. That can affect the fabrics washability, the hand of the fabric, and the resistance to the sun. It also increases the lead me of the fabric. Using a fabric that already passes 701 is you best opon.

A. Yes polyester fabrics that pass 701

We do have a day room area that can be used for storage/workspace. This is also covered by a camera for security purposes.

Q. I assume that you want a pair of draperies opposed to a one-way drapery panel. Either is fine but it does not specify if you want them to open in the center or open from one side stacking on the opposite side.

A. Center pull with a rod to open.

Q. Is this area occupied space?

A. Yes, it is.

Q. Can you confirm if these are Wall or Ceiling Mount?

A. Wall Mount

Q. Single Panel or Center Draw (2 panels)?

A. Center

Q. Opening with Baton (sck) or Traverse (String)?

A. Baton
