November 2018 SOURCE SELECTION SENSITIVE Page 1 of 2
Section A: General Contract Information
Is this a Bridge Action as defined in the AF Bridge Action Reduction Plan? Yes No
Contracting Activity: 97th Contracting Flight
Project/Program Name: Motorola Radio Warranty
Purchase Request / Local ID Number: F1B2A19259AW01
Estimated Contract Cost (including Options): $0.00
Section B: Description of the Supplies/Services Required
The 97 MXG currently has over 300 APX 4000 radio devices where the warranty has expired. A new maintenance agreement is required. The maintenance agreement includes Service from the Start (SfS), which allows the Government's radio devices operating in peak condition. The maintenance coverage includes tests and repairs, and returns the radio to original factory specifications. Firmware is also upgraded to the latest version. SfS adheres to a proven process of analysis and restoration, backed by a 90-day warranty. Service agreements allow the Government to budget the maintenance costs on an annual basis. Equipment covered under service agreements also receive a higher service priority, which results in quicker repair times.
Section C: Justification for Soliciting from a Single Source or Brand Name
The radios that are used by the 97 MXG are Motorola Radios. The radios must be serviced and maintained by Motorola. The current warranty of the radios is set to expire, therefore, a maintenance agreement is required.
Section D: Efforts to Obtain Competition
Market Research was conducted to try to find any available source that can complete the requirement, but none were found.
Section E: Steps to Preclude Future Single Source or Brand Name Awards
In the future, if the purchase of these warranties become necessary again, 97 CONF will research the requirements to determine if they can be placed out for competition.
