MEMORANDUM FOR 97 MXG/MXOPB

FROM: Clifton L. Washington

SUBJECT: MXMT Mobile Tail Enclosure Braking System – Salient Characteristics

1. The 97th Maintenance Squadron has a requirement to purchase a Mobile Tail Enclosure (MTE), Breakaway Braking Safety System (BBSS) to eliminate roll away in the event the MTE becomes disengaged from tow vehicle. The following is a list of the salient characteristics the MTE BBSS must possess:

• Automatic braking system for a MTE weighing 500,000 LBS

• Air operated braking system similar to those widely used in commercial over the road tractor/trailer transports

• Air storage tank of sufficient capacity to apply air brakes to stop MTE

• Manual valve utilized to release air into braking circuit to release brakes

• Equipment operation training of personnel to be accomplished by the manufacturer

• Equipment installation and initial setup to be accomplished by the manufacturer

• Minimum 3 successful operational demonstrations of system stopping MTE

• Warranty – 5 year warranty for material and manufacturing faults

• International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 certified

• Contractor to supply an electronic version of the instruction, maintenance manuals, including parts lists, and exploded views in the English language.
