About this file

This document is an Asbestos & Lead-Based Paint Summary for Building 205 at Gunter, dated 8-9-11, prepared by Base Environmental. The summary indicates that a building survey performed in 1990 identified multiple asbestos-containing materials including floor tile, duct insulation, pipe insulation, boiler insulation, and sink insulation coating. Approximately 19,000 ft² of floor tile, boilers, and some piping have been removed through past abatement activities. A suspect wall tile adhesive remains in a small mechanical room, and a complete, updated survey addressing all existing and removed building materials has not been conducted.

Regarding lead-based paint, the records are limited. Exterior surfaces have been partially tested, with walls, window ledges, older doors, and downspouts identified as having lead-based paint, typically located under multiple layers of non-lead based paint. No updated records exist for lead-based painted components inside the building. If an updated survey is requested, it must be processed through the 332 Work Request process, with Base Environmental available to assist.

Bldg. 205 Gunter Asbestos & Lead-Based Paint Summary Dated 8-9-11

Asbestos:

Base Environmental has reviewed available records associated with the referenced facility to address any remaining asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint.

The only building survey performed for this structure was performed in 1990. The survey indicated a number of asbestos-containing materials which includes but is not limited to: floor tile, duct insulation, pipe insulation, boiler insulation and insulation coating on break room sinks. However, some abatement activities have been performed over the years which includes; the removal of approx. 19,000 ft² of floor tile, boilers and some piping. Base Environmental has made general notes and observations in recent years and did not reference any remaining materials associated with the HVAC systems or materials associated with thermal system insulations (piping systems) located in the mechanical rooms or other areas within the building. A suspect wall tile adhesive was noted in the database, which is still located in a small mechanical room. A complete and updated survey has not been performed that addresses all existing building materials and those that have been removed as part of past abatement.

Lead-Based Paint

Lead-based paint records are very limited for the facility. There are no updated records that address lead-based painted components located on the interior of the building. The exterior surfaces have been tested on a limited scale and all painting projects through civil engineering will reference walls, window ledges, older doors and down spouts as having lead-based paint. These lead-based paint layers will typically be located under a single or multiple layers of non-lead based paint.

If the user requests that an updated survey for both asbestos and lead-based paint be performed for this facility, Base Environmental can help. This request must go through the 332 Work Request process.
