About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers amendment to Request for Quote (RFQ) #FA301626Q7055 issued by the federal government to TDS Metals for structural steel materials and components. The amendment clarifies technical specifications and requirements for nine line items across multiple product categories.

The government confirmed that all steel plates in various thicknesses (3/4", 1/2", 1", and 1.250") must be ASTM A-36 alloy, and that beams must be carbon steel rather than stainless steel. For more specialized items, the government specified detailed material grades for each line item: Line 1 requires ASTM A992/A572 Grade 50 steel I-beams (24 x 80# profile, 20 feet long), Lines 2 and 3 require CF-1018 steel square tubing (3" size), Line 4 requires ASTM A-500 steel, Lines 5, 6, 7, and 9 require ASTM A-36, and Line 8 requires ASTM A992/A572 Grade 50. The government rejected a proposed alternative of W 24 x 84 beams, stating the trainer equipment has been specifically designed for the exact specified profile and shape. The government also noted that a forklift will be available on-site for offloading delivered materials. The amendment clarifies that "JIC" notation in Line Item 2 refers to a facility location designation rather than a specification requirement, and the material itself is confirmed as needed.

AMENDMENT 002

Contractor Questions and Government Responses:

Contractor Question:

1) Will there be a lift for offloading said material once delivered?

Government Response: There will be a forklift on site to offload the material.

2) What alloy do you need on the 3/4" plate?

Government Response: ASTM A-36

3) What alloy on the 1.250" plate?

4) What alloy on the 1" plate?

5) What alloy on the 1/2" plates?

6) Furthermore, we would like to know if the beams should be stainless steel of carbon steel?

Government Response: Carbon Steel

7) What grade of material are you looking for?

Government Response:

Line 1: ASTM A992/A572 Grade 50

Line 2: CF-1018

Line 3: CF-1018

Line 4: ASTM A-500

Line 5: ASTM A-36

Line 6: ASTM A-36

Line 7: ASTM A-36

Line 8: ASTM A992/A572 Grade 50

Line 9: ASTM A-36

8) Line Item 1 (SIB 18547 – 24 x 80# Steel I-Beam):

Can a W 24 x 84 beam be accepted as an alternative? (4 pieces, each 20 feet long)

Government Response: No. The trainer has been designed to be used with that exact shape and profile for the supporting equipment. The additional 4# to every foot will alter those characteristics too greatly for all to fit together as designed.

9) Line Item 2 (SSQCF3 – 3" CF-1018 Steel Square JIC):

Government Response: This material is needed and if ‘JIC’ is in question, I believe it is referring to a location of where the material is located at their facility.
