Once the treatment has been accomplished, the soil shall not be disturbed.

Per Public Law 91-956, it is the contractor’s sole responsibility to comply with applicable OSHA laws and regulations.

The contractor will coordinate all operations and procedures for entry into the crawl space/confined space with the government representative prior to entry.

Soil treatments within crawl spaces into which heating ventilation and air condition (HVAC) systems are installed shall be treated by the trench or rodding method.

Trench Method. Apply the termiticides in a linear trench not exceeding six inches in width along the interior and exterior of the foundation walls, along both sides of interior partitions, and around piers and plumbing at rates specified on the label. Do not apply an overall treatment in crawl spaces. Emulsion shall be mixed with the soil as it is being replaced into the trench.

Cover treated soil in trenches with a layer of treated soil.

Rodding Method. Apply the termiticides by rodding from grade to the top of the footing. Rod holes shall be spaced at one foot intervals to provide a continuous barrier at application rates indicated on the product label.

A vapor barrier shall be placed over the crawl space soil where a HVAC system is located to protect the HVAC system from any accidental contamination from the termiticides being released from the soil and taken up by the HVAC system.

SPECIAL FOUNDATION CONSIDERATIONS: Hollow block foundations or voids in masonry, when present, shall be treated in accordance with the label directions of the product used to ensure that a continuous chemical barrier is maintained in the voids at application rates consistent with label recommendations.

Soil treatments at grade beams to voids shall be done by pouring the treatment solution directly into the hollow spaces with application rates in accordance with label directions.

Soil treatments at expansion joints, control joints, and areas where the slabs shall be penetrated by pipes or other construction items shall be treated by rodding with application rates in accordance with label directions. The termiticides shall be rodded around all plumbing or other structures that penetrate the slab and could provide an entry for subterranean termites.

Soil treatments under pre-existing slabs shall consist of the termiticides being applied at rates and concentrations indicated on the label for the product used. The termiticides shall be applied uniformly under the entire slab.

VERTICAL BARRIERS: A vertical barrier as prescribed by the termiticides products label shall be provided to meet the contract requirements for satisfactory compliance.

The vertical barrier shall be conducted after final grading has been completed.

The vertical barrier shall be accomplished by the Trench Method to ensure a consistent, continuous barrier is obtained around the entire perimeter of the structure.
